GMC Hoops Game Capsule–Sayreville vs. Lakewood–Hoop Group Headquarters Fall League–September 29, 2014

Bombers Fall Behind Early in Loss to Piners from Ocean County

NEPTUNE, NJ–In one of two 9:00 PM games involving teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference, Sayreville took on Lakewood in another tough test for the Bombers. Despite the shooting of guard, Mitchell Strandberg, the Bombers fell behind early, and trailed 23-8 at one point in the first half. Lakewood increased that advantage in the second half, and led 44-26 with less than 6 minutes to play before Sayreville got a three pointer from Justin Santos and 7 pts from Jehvye Floyd including a breakaway dunk late to highlight a 12-3 spurt that closed out Lakewood’s 47-38 win.

GAME NOTES: In attendance at last night’s game were former McCarrick standouts Carlos Morales and Aaron Lewis. Morales played a couple varsity seasons at McCarrick before transferring to Perth Amboy for his senior year while Lewis, the nephew of former head coach, Joe Lewis, graduated from Cardy Mac last year, and is now attending Middlesex County College. Both Morales and Lewis were there cheering on Strandberg, who also starred for the Central Jersey Jayhawks during the summer at the Raritan Bay Summer League.
