GMC Hoops Game Notes–Barringer vs. St. Joseph’s–Linden Team Camp–June 15, 2016

LINDEN, NJ—In the nightcap of the doubleheader GMC Hoops took in at the Linden Team Camp played at the Linden Recreation Center on John Street, St. Joseph’s took on Barringer of Newark and the Super Essex Conference in a non-conference clash. The Blue Bears got off to a fast start with three treys and a 12-4 first quarter lead, but St. Joe’s took over after that with dominant defense.

Over the last three periods of action, the Falcons limited Barringer to just six points on two field goals and four free throws. Meanwhile, St. Joseph’s offense got a little more on track with a 31-6 surge to come away with a 35-18 victory. Letrell West led the charge for the Falcons with 12 points while Alanzo Frink chipped in with 9. Xavier Townes added 6 points while Malachi Walker contributed with 4.

Mike Granda and Sashank Sindhia rounded out the Falcons scoring with two points each. The Falcons compiled their 35 points on 12 field goals and 11 of 15 shooting from the foul line. St. Joseph’s returns to action at Linden on Thursday with its final North Division game against Howell of Monmouth County and the Shore Conference at 6:00 PM over at the Linden Recreation Center, and then a crossover game against Bayonne of Hudson County at 8:00 PM at Linden High School.

2:19–STJ–West scores on putback of a missed three pointer to close gap to 12-9.

1:29-STJ–Frink drives in for a layin and a 12-11 BAR lead.

0:45–STJ–Xavier Townes scores on a transition layup as he is fouled, but missed the bonus FT for a 13-12 lead.

0:00–BAR–missed a couple threes in the closing seconds of the half for a 13-12 STJ lead. Falcons outscored the Blue Bears 9-0 in frame. STJ first half scoring—Frink—5 points, West—4 points, Townes—2 points, and Walker—2 points.


Third Quarter

7:42–STJ–After giving up a score to BAR, Joe’s retook the lead at 15-14 on a layup by West.

6:25–STJ–Frink scores a basket to give Joes a 17-14 lead.

5:45–STJ–Mikey Granda gets into the act by drawing a foul and making both FTs for a 19-16 Joes lead.

4:03–STJ–West fouled and makes both FTs for a 21-16 lead.

2:49–STJ–Townes scores on layup for a 23-16 lead.

0:00–Neither team scores for the rest of the period as Joes leads 23-16. Falcons outscored Barringer by a 10-4 margin in frame.
