GMC Hoops Game Notes–East Brunswick Tech @ Dunellen–Gold Division Clash–February 8, 2017

DUNELLEN, NJ–On Wednesday evening, GMC Hoops took a trip out to the Faber in Dunellen to take in the Gold Division contest between the Destroyers and East Brunswick Tech.

Leading 11-8 after one quarter, Dunellen opened the second with an 11-3 tear that consisted of two threes from Oscar Caballero and a trey by freshman Tyje’ Kelton for a 22-11 lead. East Brunswick Tech rallied to end the first half with an 11-4 run that included scores from R.J. Jobin, Dan Rachelkyuk, and A.J. Rambone to close the gap to 26-22 at the half.

East Brunswick Tech wouldn’t get any closer to tie or take the lead. Instead, Dunellen opened the third quarter by scoring 7 of the first 11 points including a three point play by Caballero for a 33-26 lead. From there, the Destroyers gradually pulled away for a 54-41 victory.

Kelton finished with a double-double of a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds while Caballero chipped in with 18 points. Jobin led East Brunswick Tech with 16 points while Rachelkyuk chipped in with 10. Below are game notes from the action in the contest:

First Quarter

6:30–Dunellen opens the game with 5 of the first 7 points for a 5-2 lead.

4:55 left in 1st qtr and EB Tech takes a 6-5 lead on a Dan Rachelkyuk foul line jumper. Tigers on a 4-0 run.

2:10 left in 1st qtr and EB Tech calls time after a transition layup by Tyje’ Kelton gives Dunellen a 9-6 lead. Destroyers on a 4-0 run.

36.1 seconds left in the first quarter and EB Tech calls time again after a Dan Rachelkyuk putback pulls Tigers to 11-8.

0:00–End of first quarter and thanks to an earlier score by Chris Rouland, Dunellen clings to an 11-8 lead. Rouland’s score capped a 6-0 Destroyers run for an 11-6 lead.


Second Quarter

4:19 left in the first half and Dunellen leads 22-11 after a Tyje’ Kelton three from the right wing. Destroyers score 11 of the first 15 points of the 2nd period including two threes by Oscar Caballero.

0:00–Game has gone to the half with Dunellen clinging to a 26-22 lead after an EB Tech putback by Dan Rachelkyuk off a missed three pointer. EB Tech ends half on an 11-4 run. Dunellen opened the 2nd on an 11-3 spurt with two treys by Caballero and a three by Kelton. Dunellen’s first half scoring: Tyje’ Kelton scored 14 points while Oscar Caballero chipped in with 10. EB Tech’s first half scoring: RJ Jobin and Dan Rachelkyuk each scored 8 for the Tigers.


Third Quarter

4:01 left in 3rd and Dunellen leads 33-26 after a three point play by Oscar Caballero

1:07 left in 3rd and Dunellen calls time with a 35-31 lead after an RJ Jobin three from the left corner off an inbounds pass by Vincent Pellicane for EB Tech.

0:00–End of third quarter and Dunellen leads EB Tech 38-32 after a Tyje’ Kelton jumper from the right wing.


Fourth Quarter

6:01 left in 4th and EB Tech calls timeout trailing 40-34 thanks to a Chris Rouland layup from the left low block off a feed from Oscar Caballero for Dunellen

4:31 left in 4th and Dunellen leads 47-34 on another three point play by Oscar Caballero.

3:40 left in the 4th and Dunellen calls time with a 47-35 lead.

2:26 left in 4th and Dunellen now leads 49-37 after an and one score by Chris Rowland from the right low block.

0:00–Game just ended with Dunellen winning 54-41 despite a last second score by East Brunswick Tech. Dunellen closed the game by scoring 5 of the last 9 points. Freshman, Tyje’ Kelton led the Destroyers with a game high double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds while Oscar Caballero chipped in with 18 including two three pointers. R.J. Jobin led East Brunswick Tech with a team high 16 points while teammate Dan Rachelkyuk chipped in with 10 points.
