GMC Hoops Game Notes–Elizabeth vs. South Brunswick–Odie Page Summer League–July 21, 2016

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–In the nightcap of the GMC Hoops doubleheader at the 2016 Odie Page Summer League on Thursday night, South Brunswick took on Elizabeth at New Brunswick High School. After Elizabeth took a 5-3 lead early on, South Brunswick got a three from Chris James to spark an 11-2 run that was also capped by a three from Shawn Bautista for a 14-7 advantage.

Elizabeth eventually fought back with an 8-3 spurt for a 17-15 Vikings lead with South Brunswick getting its only points on another three from Bautista. The Vikes took control again though by finishing the half on a 12-2 run including two layups by Tavian Alford to spark the spurt, and a layup and a three from Morgan Jones to end the half for a 29-17 lead.

The Minutemen battled back again with a 18-10 showing over much of the second half including six unanswered points to pull within four again at 39-35. However, South Brunswick was able to prevail by six, 41-35 thanks to a one of two showing from the line by Jones with 15 seconds left, and another one of two effort with 11 seconds to seal the win. 12:38–ELIZABETH–timeout–South Brunswick leading 14-7 after an 11-2 run sparked by a three from the right wing by Chris James and capped by a three from Shawn Bautista.

7:39–ELIZABETH–timeout–SB leading 17-11. Minutemen on a 4-3 run with the only SB points coming on another three from Shawn Bautista.

5:00–ELIZABETH–adds two more scores to pull within two at 17-15.

2:35–SB–on a 6-0 run including a couple layups by Tavian Alford for a 23-15 lead.

1:15–SB–now on a 9-0 run after drawing a foul and making one of two from the line for a 26-15 lead.

0:42–ELIZABETH–fouled on a bank shot, but missed the bonus FT for a 26-17 SB lead.

Second Half

17:45–SB–James scores for a 31-18 lead.

16:50–ELIZ–scores a basket while being fouled, but missed the bonus free throw for a 31-20 SB lead.

16:25–SB–Alford knocks down a three from the right wing for a 34-20 lead.

15:42–SB–leads 34-20. Vikings have opened the half on a 5-3 run.

11:39–ELIZ–calls a 30 timeout after hitting a three pointer from the right wing to cap a 7-1 run to close the gap to 35-27.

10:23–ELIZ–hits a runner to close the gap to 35-29.

6:27–SB–on a 4-0 run after a breakaway layup by Chris James gives Vikings a 39-29 lead.

2:11–SB–timeout–follows a score by Elizabeth on a putback. Minutemen have made only 2 of 8 from the line over the last several minutes, but have pulled to within four at 39-33.
