GMC Hoops Game Notes–J.P. Stevens vs. Scotch Plains-Rahway Summer League–July 30, 2015

RAHWAY, NJ–In the second game of the tripleheader at the Rahway Summer League, J.P. Stevens jumped out to a 27-13 lead over the first 29:02 of the contest, but had to hold off a fierce rally by Scotch Plains for the 35-31 victory.  Over the last 10:58 of the contest, the Raiders outscored the Hawks by an 18-8 margin.  Four of those points came on free throws in the last 38.9 seconds of the game.  Mike Lionikis scored 10 points for JPS.

First Half

18:18–SPF–splashes three from top of the key for a 3-0 lead.

14:14–JPS–three point play follows one of two FTs for a 4-3 lead.

11:24–SPF–timeout with JPS still leading 4-3.

10:26–JPS–Lionikis jumper from foul line for a 6-3 lead.

9:47–SPF–three pointer from right wing for a 6-6 tie.

9:06–JPS–jumper from right wing for an 8-6 lead.

7:32–JPS–fouled and makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 9-6 lead.

6:27–JPS–two handed layup from left low block for an 11-6 lead.

5:34–SPF–steal for one handed dunk and an 11-8 JPS lead.

1:46–SPF–timeout with JPS leading 13-10 and Lionikis going to the line.  He makes 1 of 2 for a 14-10 lead.

1:14–JPS–three point play off nice feed by Lionikis for a 17-10 lead.

1:00–SPF–basket and the foul but missed bonus ft for a 17-12 JPS lead.

2.1–JPS–Lionikis scores on transition layup for a 19-12 lead at the half.

Second Half

13:23–JPS now leads 23-13 after scoring 4 of first 5 points of 2nd half including pull-up jumper by Lionikis.

12:02–JPS–scores on follow off missed reverse layup by Lionikis for a 25-13 lead.

10:58–JPS–steal for layup by Lionikis for a 27-13 lead.

8:58–JPS–timeout.  Leads 27-14.  SPF no FGs so far this half.  Just 2 of 4 FTs

8:41–SPF–fouled and makes both FTs for a 27-16 JPS lead.

7:22–JPS–steal for layup and a 29-16 lead.

4:50–SPF–timeout after a follow by JPS ends a 4-0 SPF run for a 31-20 JPS lead.

3:13–SPF–forces turnover and are on a 7-0 run after a jumper, three pointer and layup by the same guy for a 31-27 JPS lead.

1:13–SPF–fouled and makes both FTs for a 31-29 lead.

1:00–SPF–calls timeout after getting steal.  JPS still leads 31-29.

38.9–JPS–fouled and makes both FTs for a 33-29 lead.

23.3–SPF–fouled and makes both FTs for a 33-31 JPS lead.
