EWING, NJ–On the final day of the regular season, South Brunswick took on Lawrence in the 2016 Moody Park Summer League, which was actually held at Ewing High School due to storms around New Jersey on Monday afternoon. The Vikings, led by Mike Ugarte, Tavian Alford, Greg Lee, Chris James, and Shawn Bautista gave a very talented squad from Lawrence all that it could handle, but the talented Cardinal squad proved to be too much with a 13-4 run for a 45-30 lead after South Brunswick had clawed its way back within six at 32-26. Lawrence went on to win 57-43. Below are game notes from the action:
First Half
15:30–ARRIVE–Lawrence leads South Brunswick 6-3.
15:11–LAW–fouled and makes both FTs for an 8-3 lead.
14:29–SB–timeout after a transition layup by Lawrence for a 10-3 lead.
9:00–LAW–scores a basket to make it a 9-3 run to take a 15-6 lead
6:33–SB–claws back to within four at 15-11 after a three pointer and a layin by Tavian Alford.
2:31–SB–timeout–LAW–on a 8-2 run highlighted by a dunk and two layups for a 23-13 lead.
0:00–LAW–leads 27-14 after the Cardinals score on two layups down the stretch.
Second Half
15:22–SB–starts the second half on an 8-0 run consisting of threes from Alford and Mike Ugarte as well as a score from Chris James to close the gap to 27-22.
13:09–LAW–timeout–after a nifty one on one move for a score to take a 34-26 lead after a 7-4 run. SB got a score from Ugarte during the stretch.
12:44–injury timeout for a Lawrence player, who went down on a fast break and hit his head. LAW still leads 34-26.
6:20–SB–just hit a three pointer that banked in from the left side to end a 13-4 LAW run for a 45-33 LAW lead.
2:16–LAW–in control with a 51-35 lead following a 6-2 run.
0:00–LAW wins 57-43. SB finishes the game on an 8-6 run including a drive and spin move by Ugarte, and two threes by Alford. One of the two threes by Alford came from well beyond the top of the key at the buzzer.
