GMC Hoops Game Notes–Spotswood vs. South Brunswick–Montgomery Team Camp–June 16, 2016

SKILLMAN, NJ–In the nightcap of the four hours of basketball on the final day of the 2016 Montgomery Team Camp, two GMC teams went at it as Spotswood of the Blue Division took on South Brunswick on the Red Division. Despite both teams not having some key players, they both played a competitive game with plenty of back and forth action. South Brunswick was ultimately able to prevail with great passing and playmaking for a 54-43 win.

Spotswood battled throughout though. Although the Chargers were playing without the likes of J.T. Vento and Justin Dekovics, they rallied from several deficits during the course of the contest including a 19-11 margin at the 12:11 mark with a 12-4 spurt over a 7:21 span for a 23-23 tie. Andrew Fuzesi capped the run with a three pointer from the right side with 4:50 remaining in the first half. However, South Brunswick responded with the final 13 points of the half including a couple scores by Tavian Alford and two pairs of free throws by Greg Lee for a 36-23 lead at the break.

The Chargers opened the half by scoring the first five points including a pair of free throws at the 17:43 mark for a 36-28 South Brunswick lead, but couldn’t get any closer. The Vikings, which were also without the likes of Mike Ugarte, Ryan Moran, and Vic Huetz, then scored 11 of the next 15 points over a span of 5:31 including a three from the left wing by Chris James at the 14 minute mark for a 47-32 lead.
