GMC Hoops Highlights–February 11, 2017–#25 P-Way Tech @ #24 Spotswood–GMCT Play-In Round

Here are highlights from the action in the 2017 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Play-In Round match-up between 25th seeded Piscataway Tech and 24th seeded Spotswood.

The Chargers opened the game by missing its first eight shots, and 11 of 13 from the floor while Piscataway Tech jumped out to an 8-0 lead. However, little by little, Spotswood got back into the game, and took control with a 29-13 surge that included a three pointer and conventional three point play by senior Andrew Fuzesi for a 29-21 lead with 2:39 to go in the first half.

Piscataway Tech would battle back though with a 16-8 spurt the rest of the half that included a score by Daniel Peacock and a bucket by Branden Barnes to tie the game at 37-37 going into the intermission. The Raiders wouldn’t be able to retake the lead though.

Instead, Spotswood opened the third quarter by scoring 14 of the first 18 points including another three by Fuzesi at the 5:47 mark to take a 51-41 lead, and led by as many as 14 points in the second half en route to a fast paced, back and forth, and high scoring 81-69 victory.

With the victory, 24th seeded Spotswood advanced to play 9th seeded Piscataway in the 2017 GMCT Preliminary Round on Tuesday, February 14th at P-Way. The Chargers, which defeated Piscatawaay Tech for the second time this season, also improved to 6-17 overall, and 4-2 in GMC Crossovers.

Matt Vento led the Chargers with 23 points while Abdul Nieskens chipped in with 17 points and Fuzesi added 16. Piscataway Tech was led by Peacock with a team high 22 points while Taquan Smith chipped in with 21 and Branden Barnes added 14.
