GMC Hoops Highlights–January 20, 2017–Bound Brook @ Middlesex–Battle of Route 28

Here are highlights from the action in a GMC-Skyland Conference clash between Middlesex and Bound Brook. The Brook and Middlesex are neighborhood rivals along the Route 28 West Corridor.

Led by the efforts of Jake Robel (13 points), Chris Hendricks (11 points), and John Dickey (10 points), Middlesex took a 13-11 first quarter lead, led 28-22 at the half, and thanks to a Pat Rudawski three point play, led 45-41 after three quarters.

However, offensive rebounds and turnovers doomed the upstart Jays. Bound Brook was able to take full advantage by scoring 14 of the first 18 points of the fourth period for a 55-49 lead. Middlesex would get three pointers from Hendricks and Tyler Ha to draw within a single possession with 23.3 seconds to play, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Crusaders won, 60-55.

Noah Smith led all scorers with 19 points for Bound Brook while teammate Tyson Amaker chipped in with 18, and Evian Brown contributed with 11. Bound Brook improved to 11-1 overall and 4-0 versus GMC schools with the win while Middlesex dropped to 7-5 overall and 1-1 against schools outside of conference.
