Here are the highlights from the second half of action in the Battle of Route 28 clash between Dunellen and Middlesex at The Bird Cage in Middlesex.

GMC Hoops traveled over to Middlesex High School to see another Battle of Route 28. This time, it was a regular season match-up between the Blue Jays and neighborhood rival, Dunellen, which it defeated 56-30 in the Championship Game of the 2016 Shello-Santy Tournament back in December.

Leading only 23-22 at the half, Middlesex got a three from Tyler Ha for a four point lead before Tyje’ Kelton scored on a lob off an inbounds play underneath, and then a putback to tie the game at 26-26. The Destroyers were unable to take the lead though as the Blue Jays put the game away with a decisive 11-3 run.

Ha, who scored all 10 of his points in the second half, fired in another three while Chris Spencer netted two treys and Jake Robel connected on a trifecta while also scoring on a layup off an alleyoop pass by Ha. Chris Hendricks also got into the act with a layup to help Middlesex take a 37-29 lead, and gradually pull away from there.

Middlesex gradually built up a 50-33 lead midway through the fourth and reserve, Kareem Aref got into the act with a three pointer and a putback down the stretch to help round out the 55-37 victory. Hendricks led the Jays with 13 points while Ha chipped i with 10. Kelton led the Destroyers with 12 points while Oscar Caballero chipped in with 10.
