GMC Hoops Highlights–March 17, 2017–Verona vs. Don Bosco Prep–TOC Quarterfinals

Here are highlights from the last 20 minutes or so of action between Verona, the Group 1 State Champion, and Don Bosco Prep, the Non-Public A State Champion in the 2017 NJSIAA Tournament of Champions Quarterfinals at Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

Trailing 25-21 with 4:45 to go in the first half, Verona, which played a brilliant game, scored 6 of the last 8 points of the 2nd quarter to tie the score at 27-27 while holding the Ironmen’s top player, Ron Harper to no points in the first half.

The Hillbillies then opened the third on a 12-8 run including a three pointer by Travis Jocelyn to take a 39-35 lead. Bosco ended the third with a three pointer from the left corner to trail by one, and that sparked a 26-12 surge to finish the game for a 61-51 victory.

Marcellus Earlington led the way for Bosco with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds despite picking up his fourth foul in the third quarter. Matt Herasme added 12 points and 4 rebounds including two threes. Harper scored all 8 of his points in the second half while collecting 5 rebounds for the game.

Jocelyn led Verona in a losing cause with 17 points including three treys along with 4 rebounds and a blocks. Jack Farrell and Zack Zaccone chipped in with 11 points each. Farrell added 4 assists while Zaccone pulled down four boards.

With the victory third seeded Don Bosco Prep improved to 29-1 overall, and will face second seeded Linden in the TOC Semifinals. Verona, the sixth seed in the TOC, finished its season at 25-6
