GMC Hoops Highlights–March 20, 2017–Franklin vs. Manasquan–TOC Girls Final

Here are highlights from the last five minutes of action in fourth seeded Franklin’s dramatic buzzer beating win over second seeded Manasquan in the 2017 NJSIAA Tournament of Champions Girls Final at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.

It was a back and forth five minutes between these two schools as Kennedy Schenck fired in a three pointer to give the Warriors a 42-39 lead. Franklin then added a free throw to go up by four before Manasquan rallied with a 5-0 run including a breakaway layup by Stella Clark for a 44-43 lead.

Franklin retook the lead at 46-44 on a conventional three point play by Camille Gray with 2:19 remaining. Manasquan would tie the game back up before Diamond Miller connected on a floater with 1:30 to play in regulation. Faith Masonius then tied the game at 48-48 with 13.5 seconds to play.

All of that set the stage for Schenck who corralled a long offensive rebound, and got a baseline jumper off with 0.7 seconds remaining and it went in for the 50-48 victory. Manasquan, which lost to St. John Vianney in overtime (65-58) in last year’s TOC final, was making its fourth straight TOC Finals appearance. Franklin, the Group 4 State Champion, was playing in its first ever TOC Final.

With the win, Franklin, concluded its season at 25-7 while Manasquan, the Group 2 State Champion, finished its year at 31-3.
