GMC Hoops Highlights–March 9, 2017–Camden vs. Rumson-Fair Haven–Group 2 State Semis

Here are highlights from the action in the 2017 Group 2 State Semifinal between Central Jersey Champion, Rumson Fair-Haven and South Jersey Champion, Camden at Perth Amboy High School.

Leading 21-17 midway through the second quarter, Camden, which had reached the state final four years in a row, went on a 16-0 run to take a 20 point lead with 1:16 left in the second period before going into halftime up 37-21.

From there, Rumson was unable to get any closer than 15 points as the Panthers from The High punched its ticket to the RAC for the fourth straight year in the hopes of getting its 12th state championship with a 65-49 victory.

Myles Thompson led the way for Camden with 24 points while John Evans added 14 points and Ethan Tarte chipped in with 13. Jack Solano and Teddy Sourlis led Rumson in defeat with 15 points each.

Rumson had 10 three pointers in the game, and outscored Camden by a margin of 30-9 from long distance, but the Panthers countered by holding a 46-18 edge in points scored from within the arc.

Camden will face Newark Westside in the Group 2 State Championship Game on Sunday, March 12th at 5:00 PM at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
