GMC Hoops Slideshow–February 21, 2017–East Brunswick/GMC JV Semifinals

Here are photos from the action in the 2017 East Brunswick/GMC JV Semifinals at East Brunswick High School involving 2nd seeded Piscataway and 3rd seeded J.P. Stevens and fourth seeded East Brunswick and top seeded St. Joseph’s.

Leading 32-30 with 3:30 remaining in the third period, Piscataway finished the game on a 23-11 surge for a 55-41 victory. The Chiefs advance to their first JV tourney final since losing to New Brunswick in 2003. The JV Chiefs will face top seeded St. Joseph’s, a 68-59 winner over fourth seeded East Brunswick.

Marvin Randle led the Junior Chiefs with a game high 14 points while Angelo Manalaysay chipped in with 13. J.P. Stevens was led by Naysean Burch with 13 points while Dylan Zamora chipped in with 10.

After the game went back and forth a bit, and the score was tied up at 8-8, St. Joe’s went on an 8-0 run to take a 16-8 lead, and never looked back after that. The JV Falcons led 45-27 at the half before East Brunswick rallied with a 20-10 run that included scores by Xavier Fitzgerald and Jaedan Pressley to close the gap to 55-47.

East Brunswick wouldn’t get any closer as Joes scored the last points of the third period on a basket by Jack Hogarty, and then opened the fourth with the first four points including a steal for a layup by Ryan Granito for a 61-47 lead with 6:39 remaining. The JV Falcons went on to win from there, 68-59.

Matt Cruz led St. Joseph’s with 14 points while Granito added 12, and Jack Hogarty chipped in with 10. Jaedan Pressley led EB with 11 points while Sal Salsa and Max Tischhauser each added 10. St. Joseph’s advances to the Championship Game on February 28th against 2nd seeded Piscataway, a 55-41 winner over 3rd seeded J.P. Stevens in the other semifinal.
