GMC Hoops Top Ten–December 31, 2021

Despite the lingering dark shadow of COVID-19, which has led to numerous cancellations, postponements, and shutdowns, the annual week of holiday tournaments returned and was mostly completed. Here’s how the GMC stacks up after the holidays.

Current records in parenthesis

  1. St. Thomas Aquinas (7-0) – Aquinas continued to roll with three more wins at the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood.
  2. St. Joseph’s (2-1) – Falcons were shut down due to COVID.
  3. Colonia (2-0) – Patriots also shut down due to COVID.
  4. Edison (3-2) – The Eagles were able to play and finished 2nd to Plainfield in the Anthony J. Cotoia Holiday Tournament in South Plainfield. Cardinals defeated Eagles 73-70 in overtime in Championship Game.
  5. Monroe (4-1) – The Falcons claimed the title in the 2021 Monroe Holiday Tournament title after defeating Woodbridge and Immaculata.
  6. South River (5-0) – The Rams claimed the 2021 South Amboy Holiday Tournament title after defeating Keansburg and Middlesex.
  7. South Plainfield (3-2) – Lost to Edison in first round, and then defeated Bridgewater-Raritan in the consolation of the 2021 Anthony J. Cotoia Tourney.
  8. East Brunswick (1-1) – East Brunswick was idle since program was shut down due to COVID.
  9. J.P. Stevens (2-1) – Hawks still moved up despite being shut down until January due to COVID.
  10. South Brunswick (1-2) – The Vikings returned to action by splitting their two games in the 2021 Brunswick Classic.
