Much of Poll Remains Status Quo, But Edison Moves Up and Monroe Moves In

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ—Another week of the 2019-20 GMC boys basketball season has passed us by, and now, it is time to take a look at the latest GMC Hoops Top Ten. There is really not much change this week unless you look at the bottom of the poll, and go from 11 to 17, or the other teams that were considered.

Edison moved up a notch this week thanks to a four game winning streak that included a win over North Brunswick. The Raiders also lost a double overtime heartbreaker to New Brunswick in the GMC Hoops Game of the Week. Monroe moves back into the poll this week.

Despite losing their season opener at J.P. Stevens, a team that only lost to 9-1 Somerville (47-42) by five at the Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout at Montgomery HS this past Saturday, the Falcons have played a tough schedule that includes the likes of Marist of Bayonne (7-1), Plainfield (3-6), a Union County School that beat Carteret in OT on December 21st (66-63), South Brunswick, and St. Joseph’s.

Monroe also recently defeated previous No. 10 Perth Amboy (76-56) on January 9th and won on the road at Old Bridge (69-60) on Saturday morning. Timothy Christian also made a jump back into the poll at No. 14 with four straight wins including a 66-63 over previous No. 7 Dunellen. The Destroyers, which also lost a tough one to Hackettstown (53-52) at the Hopatcong Hoops Showcase, fell to No. 8 this week.
