If The GMCT Seeding Took Place Today…

This Is How GMC Hoops Would Seed the 2016 GMCT

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–With the seeding meeting of the 2016 GMCT approaching, GMC Hoops and some of his followers have been discussing how the tourney would be seeded if it were held today. So, after thinking about it for a bit, this is how we would seed the tourney if the seeding were to take place today.

Keep in mind a few things: 1.) There is a tie for first place in the GMC Gold between South River and Perth Amboy Tech. We’re going with Amboy Tech as the 8th seed here since they not only split with the Rams, but also defeated P-Way Tech twice. 2.) There is a tie for 2nd place in the GMC Blue between J.F. Kennedy and Bishop Ahr. Kennedy has defeated Spotswood and Ahr head to head, and will get 2nd place nod for now. Thirdly, there are still some important games to play over the next two weeks. With all of that said, here is how we seeded the 2016 GMCT as of today:

One more important note: The GMC rules state that a team that wins their respective division automatically gets seeded in the Top 8 unless there is a tie. Then it would be the Top 9, 10, etc. Now, here for the mock seeding, we will not consider that since there are still games to be played.

  1. St. Joseph’s (13-2)–Undefeated in GMC Red and conference play.
  2. South Brunswick (12-2)–2nd in GMC Red and only two losses are to St. Joseph’s
  3. Colonia (11-3)–First in GMC White. Split with Sayreville and Defeated Woodbridge twice.
  4. Sayreville (13-4)–2nd in GMC White and defeated Colonia and EB.
  5. Woodbridge (12-3)–3rd in GMC White and defeated EB.
  6. East Brunswick (9-5)–3rd in GMC Red and defeated Old Bridge.
  7. Spotswood (14-2)–First in GMC Blue.
  8. Perth Amboy Tech (12-5)–First in GMC Gold for now despite tie thanks to recent head to head win over South River. Also swept P-Way Tech.
  9. Old Bridge (10-5)–Fourth in GMC Red, but defeated Sayreville and JPS.
  10. J.P. Stevens (9-6)–Fourth in GMC White, but defeated Woodbridge.
  11. –Fifth in GMC Red, and defeated North Brunswick twice, Perth Amboy, J.F. Kennedy, and Edison.
  12. J.F. Kennedy (6-8)–2nd in the GMC Blue. Defeated Spotswood and Ahr.
  13. North Brunswick (3-11)–Tied for 6th in GMC Red. Defeated Perth Amboy and Bishop Ahr.
  14. Perth Amboy (4-10)–Tied for 6th in GMC Red. Defeated Piscataway and Carteret.
  15. Monroe (4-11)–Tied for 5th in GMC White. Defeated Edison, South Plainfield, and New Brunswick.
  16. Bishop Ahr (6-6)–Tied for 2nd in GMC Blue. Lost to Kennedy and North Brunswick. Defeated Carteret.
  17. Carteret (3-12)–Tied for Fourth in GMC Blue. Defeated Edison and Kennedy.
  18. South River (12-4)–Tied for 1st with Amboy Tech, and split with Patriots. Also split with Piscataway Tech.
  19. Middlesex (5-10)–Tied for 4th in GMC Blue. Defeated Carteret.
  20. Edison (3-12)–Tied for 5th in GMC White. Lost to Carteret.
  21. South Plainfield (4-11)–7th in GMC White. Defeated Monroe. Lost to Edison.
  22. Piscataway Tech (11-6)–3rd in the GMC Gold. Defeated South RIver.
  23. East Brunswick Tech (10-5)–Tied for 4th in GMC Gold. Split with Amboy Tech. Swept South Amboy.
  24. South Amboy (8-9)–Tied for 4th in GMC Gold. Defeated Amboy Tech. Split with P-Way Tech and South River. Swept by EB Tech.
  25. Timothy Christian (7-8)–6th in GMC Gold. Split with EB Tech and South Amboy. Defeated Middlesex.
  26. Metuchen (2-13)–6th in GMC Blue. Split with Middlesex.
  27. Wardlaw (6-8)–7th in GMC Gold. Split with Timothy Christian and Highland Park.
  28. Dunellen (2-12)–Tied for 8th in GMC Gold. Split with Timothy Christian.
  29. Highland Park (2-13)–Tied for 8th in GMC Gold. Split with Wardlaw.
  30. New Brunswick (0-12)–8th in GMC White. No wins.

A few more notes here. Old Bridge still has one more game with EB, and the Bears have games coming up against Joes and SB, which defeated them already. So, the Knights could end up tied with EB if they run the table and EB loses its next three. If that happens, Old Bridge has a win over Sayreville, which also defeated EB, and that could get the Knights the higher seed not only over EB, but Sayreville as well.

Sayreville has another game against both Woodbridge and J.P. Stevens. The Bombers are also one game back of Colonia in the standings. If Sayreville can defeat both Woodbridge and Stevens, the Bombers could leap frog Woodbridge in the seeding by virtue of a better division record and a split with the Barrons. If Colonia gets knocked off in the next two weeks by either Monroe, South Plainfield, or New Brunswick, Sayreville could make an argument for a higher seed than the Patriots as well.

The Gold is far from being decided. Amboy Tech still has games against South Amboy, which it lost to, and Timothy Christian, which it only defeated by five at home. The Patriots also have crosstown rival Amboy on the schedule for Monday. South River also has Spotswood in addition to division games versus Timothy Christian, Highland Park, Dunellen, and East Brunswick Tech. If the Rams defeat Spotswood as well as win the GMC Gold, the Rams could make an argument for a 7th seed by virtue of the head to head win over Spotswood. P-Way Tech has Wardlaw later this week, Timothy Christian next Monday, and Dunellen next Wednesday. The Raiders will need to win out and get help due to their two losses to Amboy Tech.

Notice I have Timothy Christian ahead of Metuchen even though both teams defeated Middlesex. When Timothy Christian defeated Middlesex, it was the 2nd game of the season. In that game, one of Middlesex’s top returning players quit in the 3rd quarter. Metuchen played Middlesex a couple nights later with the Jays down that one player, and won in overtime. Middlesex defeated Metuchen last week 42-24 at Metuchen. Again without that top player.

South Plainfield has another game against Edison. If the Tigers can defeat the Eagles, they could not only leap frog them, but also Middlesex since they have a win over Monroe. Dunellen plays Highland Park twice this week while New Brunswick has a very challenging schedule over the next couple weeks leading up to the seeding meeting. Bishop Ahr has another game with Kennedy this coming Friday night at Ahr as well as another game against Spotswood next week. Wins in both of those games would tie Ahr with Spotswood, and put it ahead of JFK in the standings. Carteret has another game with Ahr at home this week too, which could help the Ramblers cause.
