Metuchen Girls Open Season With Win, 63-44

Klavon and Malague Lead Lady Bulldogs Past Carteret

CARTERET, NJ—Sophomore Molly Malague led all scorers with a game high 28 points along with 10 rebounds for a double-double as Metuchen’s girls basketball team rolled to a 63-44 opening night GMC Blue girls basketball victory over Carteret.  Chipping in for the Bulldogs was junior teammate Chase Klavon, who added 17 points, 6 steals, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds.

The Metuchen girls duo accounted for 71 percent of the Lady Bulldogs scoring while knocking down all 8 of the team’s three pointers. Brenda Guzman led the Lady Ramblers in defeat with a team high 22 points.  Helping out in a closing cause was Taija’Ney McCollum, who added 15 points.  The Carteret duo combined for all five of the team’s three pointers as well as 84 percent of the team’s scoring.

Metuchen outscored Carteret in three of the four periods including a 13-5 edge in the first period. The Lady Bulldogs added to that lead with a 19-11 showing in the 2nd for a 32-16 advantage at the intermission. The game was all downhill from there as Metuchen cruised to the opening night win. MHS opens the season at 1-0 overall and in the Blue Division while Carteret starts at 0-1 both overall in divisional play.
