Monroe Wins Two Games at MJBL on Saturday
MONROE, NJ–On Saturday afternoon, GMC Hoops took a trip down to Monroe Township and its Recreation Center to take in two games from the 2016 Mid-Jersey Basketball League involving the Monroe Falcons. The Purple Birds first played at a little bit before 5:00 PM against Lights Out.
After both teams went back and forth for a bit with two ties and a lead change, Monroe broke away from a 5-5 deadlock with a 19-5 tear that included a three point play by AK Patel, a outback by Kenny Synsyn, a layup by Hassan Reid, and a three pointer by Luke Patel for a 24-10 lead. Matt Hoyt then added two layups to help the Falcons go into halftime with a 28-14 advantage.
Lights Out put together a charge in the second half with a 14-4 start to the period to pull within four at 32-28 with just over 9 minutes to play. However, Reid got a pivotal bucket for Monroe to spark a 19-6 finish to the game that included two threes by Mike Kides (4 threes in the game), a trey by Kevin Shea, and scores down the stretch by Synsyn, Reid, and Hoyt to finish off the double digit victory.
Then, in the nightcap, the Falcons took on STM Splash at 7:40 PM, and rolled to an easy victory in this contest. Monroe jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the first 8:53 as Mike Kides (5 threes), AK Patel, and Kevin Shea struck for threes while Patel added another score. The Falcons then continued to pour it on as Matt Hoyt and Kides added treys while Kenny Synsyn added a score and AK Patel, who scored at least 10 in the first half, scored three times in the final minutes of the half for a 37-7 lead.
From there, the Monroe Falcons cruised to an easy victory as Luke Patel and Hoyt added threes in the second half along with Kides while Hassan Reid put the exclamation point on things with three layups in the final 2:00 of the contest. Monroe, which plays in the West Division of the MJBL, improved to 7-0, and stayed in the hunt for the top seed in the playoffs with the two wins. The Falcons will be in action again on Sunday night when they take on the Howell Hurricanes at the Central Jersey Basketball facility in Morganville at 7:00 PM. Below are the scores from both games:
