Sampson and Perel Lead EB Past Stevens, 49-39

Bears Outscore Hawks in Three Periods for Win

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ–Led by the efforts of junior guards, Joe Sampson and Jesse Perel, the East Brunswick Bears got back on the winning track with a 49-39 victory over J.P. Stevens in East Brunswick on Thursday night.

Sampson scored a game high 15 points including two three pointers while Perel joined him in double figures with 10 points including a trey in the victory. Big man, Dante Ralph, who scored 19 points in the loss against top ranked St. Joseph’s on Tuesday night, chipped in with 9.

Elisha Smith led J.P. Stevens with a team high 14 points including two threes while Tyrese Conover and Kasi Hazzard each chipped in with 6 in a losing cause. East Brunswick outscored J.P. Stevens by a 15-6 margin from long distance while the Hawks had a 28-26 edge in points scored within the arc.

The Bears had an 8-5 advantage in points scored at the foul line, and outscored JPS in three of the four periods. EB jumped out to a 14-9 lead, and then pulled away from a 22-21 halftime lead with a 27-18 showing over the final two quarters for the double digit win.

With the victory, East Brunswick improved to 5-7 overall and in the GMC including a 4-5 mark in the GMC Red. J.P. Stevens, which has now lost two in a row, dropped to 4-9 overall including a 3-7 mark in conference play, and a 2-7 record in the Red Division.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday with East Brunswick with J.P. Stevens hosting South Plainfield of the GMC Blue in a crossover at 1:00 PM while East Brunswick hosts Bridgewater-Raritan in a non-conference match-up at 1:30 PM.
