South Brunswick Defeats Carteret in GMC Crossover

Vikings Down Ramblers in Battle of Ranked Teams

CARTERET, NJ–In a battle of two ranked teams in the GMC Hoops Top Ten, South Brunswick broke away from a 16-12 halftime lead with a 19-13 showing in the third quarter, and then held on for a 43-36 victory over Carteret.

Senior guard, Tavian Alford led the Vikings with a game high 13 points including seven made free throws while fellow classmate, Ryan Moran, chipped in with 12 points on four three pointers. Six different players scored for South Brunswick in the contest.

Meanwhile, Carteret was led by Jemar Jordan, who matched Alford for game high with 13 points along with 13 boards for a double-double while also collecting 4 blocked shots, 3 assists, and a steal. Isaiah Daniels-Porter chipped in with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Seven different players scored for the Ramblers, which as a team compiled 35 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocked shots, and 3 steals. One of the keys to South Brunswick’s victory was the edge in three pointers. The Vikings outscored Carteret by a margin of 18-3 from beyond the arc.

The Ramblers tried to overcome the discrepancy from long distance with a 28-18 showing in points scored from inside the arc, but South Brunswick enjoyed a 7-5 advantage in made free throws to seal the win. Both teams outscored each other in two of the four periods played.

However, South Brunswick, which outscored Carteret in the first and third periods, did so by a combined margin of 31-17 while the Ramblers only outscored the Vikings in the second and fourth quarters by a combined margin of 19-12. With the victory, South Brunswick, which was seeded second in the GMCT earlier in the day, improved to 18-3 overall, including a 14-3 mark in the GMC.

Meanwhile, Carteret, seeded sixth in the GMCT, dropped to 17-6 overall including a 14-4 mark in conference play. South Brunswick is currently ranked third in the GMC Hoops Top Ten while Carteret is ranked sixth. Both teams will return to action next week with First Round games in the GMCT on Thursday, Feburary 16th.
