St. Joseph’s Brix Coming Into His Own At Stonehill

Former Falcons Standout and Monroe Native Completes Solid Junior Season for Skyhawks

EASTON, MA–While recent St. Joseph’s graduates Karl Anthony Towns, Quenton DeCosey, Wade Baldwin, and Marques Townes all enjoyed success at the Division I level this past season, Dan Brix, a teammate to both Towns and DeCosey on the first Falcons team to ever win a state title back in 2012, turned in a solid season during his junior campaign at Division II Stonehill College.  Brix played in all 29 games for the Skyhawks including 22 starts, and averaged 22 minutes, 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while also compiling a 1.1 assist to turnover ratio.

Brix, who played his first two seasons of high school hoops for Monroe Township, and helped guide the Falcons to two straight GMCT Final Four appearances, and the school’s first and only GMCT Championship appearance back in 2010, made 61 of 116 shots overall from the floor including 4 of 10 from the foul line while netting 43 of 57 from the free throw stripe.  He ranked 5th in games started, 4th in minutes played, 2nd in field goal percentage, 5th in free throw percentage, 6th in scoring, 7th in rebounding, 4th in assists, tied for 3rd in assist to turnover ratio, and 3rd in steals.  Brix scored in 25 of Stonehill’s 29 games including 8 games where he scored in double figures.

Brix scored his season high of 16 points in an 85-76 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College back on New Year’s Eve 2014.  In that contest, Brix was scorching hot as he made 7 of 8 overall from the floor including his only three point attempt, and netted his only foul shot in 25 minutes.  Brix also collected 2 rebounds and 2 assists.  Another efficient performance Brix had this past season was against Assumption College on February 11th where he scored 12 points in 17 minutes on 5 of 8 shooting from the floor and 2 of 3 from the foul line while also collecting 2 assists, a rebound, and a steal.   This past season, Stonehill finished 19-10 overall including a 14-7 mark in the always competitive Northeast 10 conference, which tied the Skyhawks for 2nd place in the Northeast Division of the conference.

With the solid regular season showing, Stonehill was able to qualify for the Northeast-10 post-season tournament, where it lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion, American International.  Then, in the NCAA Division II Tournament, Stonehill lost to Southern New Hampshire University, a team that also defeated the Skyhawks twice during the regular season.  Other players from the Central Jersey area that are on the Stonehill roster include:  Jack Cole of New Providence and Jimmy Walsh of Manasquan.   Former players and coaches from the GMC that played at Stonehill include:  Nick Smith (Colonia), A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe), Vince Rosario (Cardinal McCarrick), and former South Plainfield HS assistant coach, Mike Allocco, who actually played high school ball at Union Catholic.
