Timothy Christian Cruises Past South Amboy, 50-34

Saydee and Myha Power Tigers to GMC Gold Win

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ–With Perth Amboy Tech clinching at least a tie in the GMC Gold with a win over Wardlaw-Hartridge, Timothy Christian is just trying to position itself for the best possible seed when the GMCT Seeding meeting takes place next week.

Meanwhile, South Amboy was trying to rebound from a loss to Piscataway Tech in a battle for third place in the Gold Division on Monday night. The Guvs were unable to get back on the right track as Timothy Christian outscored them in all four periods en route to a 50-34 victory.

The Tigers scored 9 of the first 13 points of the contest, and led 21-9 at the intermission before outscoring South Amboy 29-25 in the second half for the win. Junior Robert Saydee led the way for TCS with a team high 14 points while A.J. Myha added 9 points. Will Clemons and Louis Roche chipped in with 8 and 6 points respectively.

Kyle Gasiewski led the Governors in defeat with 18 points while also collecting 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Steven Pena chipped in with 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Justin Lewis added 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists while Isaiah Munoz contributed with 3 points and 2 assists. Bobby Nebus only had one point, but led South Amboy with 8 rebounds.

As a team, South Amboy collected 15 rebounds and 9 assists while outscoring TCS by a 12-6 margin from beyond the arc. However, Timothy Christian enjoyed a 36-14 advantage in points scored from within the arc. Both teams made 8 foul shots. Eleven players got into the game for Timothy Christian with eight of them scoring. Only five players scored for South Amboy.

With the victory, Timothy Christian improved to 12-4 overall on the season including a 9-3 mark in divisional play. The Tigers remain a game up on Piscataway Tech for second place in the Gold Division. Meanwhile, South Amboy dropped to 6-10 overall with the loss, and 5-7 in the GMC Gold. Both teams will be in action later this week.

South Amboy will first visit Dunellen on Friday night at 6:00 PM in another Gold Division clash while Timothy Christian will host Highland Park at 6:45 on Friday. Then, on Saturday, the Guvs will play Koinonia Academy in a 5:30 PM non-conference contest that will follow Boys and Girls Basketball Alumni games.
