Sayreville’s Sam Jones, South Amboy’s Gabby Evanski, and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Josh Anane were among GMC Hoops’ Players of the Game for the 2025 Friends of South Amboy Games.
SOUTH AMBOY, NJ – It was quite a day of hoops at the 2025 Friends of South Amboy Games at South Amboy Middle-High School. There were four games in the 13th annual FOSA Games, and all four included at least one team from the Greater Middlesex Conference. Sayrerville vs. Oratory Prep
Sayreville: Sam Jones and Chidi Chukwurah
Sayreville’s senior tandem of Sam Jones (33 points and 4 rebounds) and Chidi Chukwurah (27 points and 10 boards) combined for 60 of the Bombers’ 75 points in their win over Oratory Prep. The Bombers’ dynamic duo accounted for 40 of the team’s 54 points scored in the paint.
Jones tallied his game high on 12 total field goals, including three treys, while netting 6 of 8 from the foul line. Chukwurah compiled his 27 points on 11 two-point field goals and 5 of 7 from the foul line. Both players also exemplified the Bombers’ hard-hat mentality with tough defense, hustle, and relentlessness.
Oratory Prep: Connor Lee
The Rams’ senior guard led four different players in double figures with 17 points and 6 rebounds in defeat. Lee connected on eight total field goals, including a three-pointer, while also collecting an assist and a block.
New Brunswick vs. South Amboy
South Amboy: Gabby Evanski
Evanski led all scorers with a game-high 8 points for the Lady Guvs in a 24-9 victory over New Brunswick. The South Amboy junior forward connected on three two-point field goals and a pair of free throws, while pulling down a team high 11 rebounds.
Franklin vs. St. Thomas Aquinas
Franklin: Sean Duncan
Franklin’s sophomore guard poured in a game-high 27 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the Warriors in their come-from-behind victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. Duncan connected on 8 total field goals, along with 6 of 7 from the line. After being limited to just five in the opening half, Duncan scored 22 of his points, including three treys, over the final two periods as Franklin surged past Aquinas for the win.
St. Thomas Aquinas: Josh Anane
The Trojans’ 6’5” junior forward collected a double-double with a team-high 16 points and 14 rebounds. Anane connected on four field goals from the floor, and went a perfect 8 of 8 from the line. He also added 3 steals and 2 blocks in the losing cause.
East Brunswick Magnet vs. South Amboy
South Amboy: Jaydius Jimenez
After not playing at all a year ago, Jimenez made a big splash in his return on opening night. The Guvs’ senior guard scored a game-high 24 points, including three treys to lead the way in a 76-59 victory over EB Magnet. Jimenez scored 10 of his points, including all three of his treys, during a pivotal 17-5 South Amboy run in the first quarter.
East Brunswick Magnet: Sebastian Ortiz
The Tigers’ senior guard was one of a few bright spots in defeat with a team-high 19 points. Ortiz connected on 7 total field goals, including three treys, while also making a pair of free throws. Connecting on three two-point field goals and two treys, Ortiz pumped in 12 of his points in the fourth period.
