Piscataway’s Donald Nwaigwe (19 points and 12 rebounds) and Perth Amboy’s Yandel Susana (17 points) were chosen GMC Hoops Players of the Game in the contest between the Chiefs and Panthers at Piscataway High School on December 23rd.
PISCATAWAY, NJ – GMC Hoops wrapped up its coverage before the holiday break with a trip to Piscataway High School for a Greater Middlesex Conference crossover between two old Red Division rivals in P-Way and Perth Amboy. In a fast-paced game that also had plenty of pressure defense and many charges, the second-ranked Chiefs took a 32-22 lead into the intermission and then surged past the Panthers in the final two periods for an 80-52 victory.
Piscataway connected on seven three-pointers, including six in the second half, to outscore Amboy by 18 points over the final two periods. Senior forward Donald Nwaigwe and junior guard Landon Pernell shared game-high honors with 19 points each for the winners. Yandel Susana led the Panthers in a losing cause with a team-high 17. Piscataway: Donald Nwaigwe
The 6’4” senior forward led the Chiefs to an 80-52 victory over Perth Amboy with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Nwaigwe shared game-high scoring honors with Landon Pernell by scoring 19 points on 7 field goals, while sinking five from the foul line. Nwaigwe also collected two assists, two blocks, and a steal. Through his first six games, Nwaigwe is averaging 19.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per contest. Piscataway, ranked second in the GMC Hoops Pre-Season Top Ten, is 6-0 heading into the holidays.
Perth Amboy: Yandel Susana
The 6’0” Panthers’ senior guard earned the GMC Hoops Player of the Game honor for the second time this season. Susana scored a team-high 17 points on six field goals and 5 of 8 from the foul line. He also collected two rebounds and two assists in a losing cause. Through his first five games, Susana has scored in double figures four times and at least 20 twice. Susana is averaging 17.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, and Perth Amboy is off to a solid 4-1 start.
