2007 TBSA Fall League–October 28, 2007

EDISON, NJ–The final week of the second annual TBSA Fall League took place at The Basketball Shooting Academy on Carter Drive in Edison on Sunday, October 28th. After going 15-21 against non-conference competition in the 2006 TBSA Fall League, the teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference entered play on the final day with a combined record of 27-26 including an 11-5 mark in just the past two weeks. Once more, there was a full slate of games running from as early as 3:00 PM for the make-up game between J.P. Stevens and North Hunterdon until the last round of contests ended at 9:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, the day started with two games including: J.F. Kennedy versus David Brearley on Court #2 and Monroe facing Dunellen over on Court #3. Right after that, at 5:00 PM, St. Joseph’s played North Hunterdon on Court #2 while Monroe played another game with a contest against Bridgewater on Court #3. Then, at 6:00 PM, Colonia battled Notre Dame on Court #2 while Elizabeth squared off against Timothy Christian on Court #3. At 7:00 PM, Middlesex faced a J.P. Stevens team playing its second game of the day on Court #2 while Roselle Catholic squared off against Bishop Ahr on Court #3. Finally, in the 8:00 PM round of games, Montgomery played Cardinal McCarrick on Court #2 while Piscataway faced Warren Hills on Court #3.

Of the eleven games that were played on this final Sunday of the season, six were decided by ten points or less including four determined by six points or less. In the eight games that pitted Greater Middlesex Conference teams against non-conference opponents, the GMC went a combined 7-1 including victories by J.P. Stevens over North Hunterdon by 12, J.F. Kennedy over Brearley by 6, Monroe impressive upset over Bridgewater by 15, Colonia over Notre Dame by 6, Bishop Ahr over Roselle Catholic by four, and Piscataway over Warren Hills by ten. The only non-conference team to come up with a win against the GMC was Montgomery, which defeated Cardinal McCarrick. Elizabeth defeated Timothy Christian by 13 while Monroe defeated Dunellen by 21 and Stevens won over Middlesex by 14 in other league action.

Latest Standings

Below are the final standings in the 2007 TBSA Fall League after play on October 28th. Trenton ended up being the overall winner by a half game over Bridgewater, which held tie-breakers over Piscataway, J.P. Stevens, and St. Joseph’s. Likewise, J.P. Stevens and Piscataway had a similar edge over Elizabeth thanks to head to head wins. Elizabeth defeated St. Joseph’s head t head to earn a tiebreaker over the Falcons. Montgomery held a tiebreaker over Colonia thanks to a head to head win earlier in the fall. Bishop Ahr also finished ahead of North Hunterdon in the standings thanks to a head to head win earlier in the season on October 7th. Teams that finished strong at TBSA were Monroe and Bishop Ahr. The Falcons began the fall at 1-4 before winning four straight to finish up above .500 at 5-4. Two of the four victories were over Roselle Catholic and Bridgewater by double digit margins. Meanwhile, the Trojans began the fall at 0-4, but then turned things around with three wins in their last four games. The only defeat came at the hands of Elizabeth while two wins came against Notre Dame and Roselle Catholic.

Breaking down the records by conference in the league, here’s how they all finished up: Colonial Valley Conference (10-5), Skyland Conference (16-16), Watchung Conference (6-2), Mountain Valley Conference (4-9), Patriot Conference (0-8), and the Greater Middlesex Conference (32-25). With the 7-1 showing against non-conference foes, the GMC finished up with a 18-6 mark in the final three weeks of competition for an overall combined record of 34-27 for a winning percentage of .541. So, the conference improved greatly overall against the other conference as supposed to last season. Breaking things down by each conference, the GMC teams did the following: Colonial Valley Conference (4-9), Skyland Conference (18-10), Watchung Conference (2-5), and the Mountain Valley Conference (9-3).
