Timothy Christian’s Robert Saydee, shown here boxing out Perth Amboy Tech’s Javon Fisher in a GMC Gold Division game back in February, helped lead a late second half charge against top seeded Hunterdon Central in the 2016 Bound Brook Summer League Playoffs on Monday night. Hunterdon Central defeated TCS, 47-36 to advance.

BOUND BROOK, NJ–In the nightcap game of the opening round of the 2016 Bound Brook Summer League Playoffs, Timothy Christian battled to the very end against top seeded Hunterdon Central, but in the end, the Devils were too much. The Tigers, which lost to the Red Devils in a regular season game on June 20th (68-50), fell behind by double digits again, but didn’t go away quietly.

Trailing 35-19 with about eight and a half minutes to play, Timothy Christian rallied to make things interesting late. The Tigers, led by soon to be juniors, Robert Saydee and Pierce Kokosinski, put together a 17-9 spurt over a span of about six and a half minutes to get within single digits at 44-36, but couldn’t get any closer. Saydee scored 8 points including back to back threes while Kokosinski added a pair of free throws and a trey of his own to cap the run.

Hunterdon Central would finally put the game away by netting 3 of 4 from the foul line while another three attempt from Saydee was just off the mark. The Devils then ran out the clock for the 47-36 victory. Timothy Christian, which was one of two schools from the Greater Middlesex Conference to qualify for the post-season at Bound Brook, finished its summer at 4-5. Meanwhile, Hunterdon Central advanced to the semifinals on Wednesday where it played Ridge, and won there as well.
