Here are highlights from the action in the 2015 Group I State Semifinals between Cresskill of Bergen County and University of Newark at East Orange Campus. North Jersey Section 1 Group I Champ, Cresskill took on the North Jersey Section 2 Group I Champ, University of Newark in the Group I semi.
Trailing 41-28 with a little more than 2 minutes to go in the third, the Cougars of Cresskill put together a 27-15 surge the rest of the way and had a chance to win late, but was unable to get a shot off as University won, 56-55, and will take on Paulsboro for the Group I Championship on Sunday at Rutgers University.
Sean Kelly, who scored his 1,000th career point in the fourth quarter for Cresskill, led all scorers with a game high 19 points while teammate Matt Flood chipped in with 17 and Zac Garcia added 10. Zamir Wright led University with a team high 16 points while Kyle Wright collected a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards, and Abdul Adams added 10 points in the win.
This game was actually the first of a state semifinal doubleheader. The nightcap game pitted recently crowned GMCT Champion and North Jersey Section 2 Group 3 Champion, Colonia against North Jersey Section 1 Group 3 Champion, Bergenfield, in another fantastic game that was won by Bergenfield, 52-51.
