South Amboy Edges Wardlaw, 55-49

Gasiewski Leads Guvs into 4th Place With Win

NORTH EDISON, NJ–Despite losing the likes of Keahre Ford and Julian Munoz from last year’s team, the South Amboy Governors have managed to be quite competitive this season.

On Friday, South Amboy defeated Wardlaw for the second time this season with a 55-49 victory. The Guvs jumped out to a. 14-10 first quarter lead, and then after Wardlaw pulled within one at 22-21 at the half, they put together another 14-10 showing in the third to take control of the game for good.

Kyle Gasiewski led the way for the Governors with a game high 24 points while teammate Bobby Nebus chipped in with 11 points. Steven Pena also contributed with 9 as seven different players scored in the contest for the Guvs. South Amboy was playing its first game in almost a week.

The Governors were originally slated to play Piscataway Tech at home on Wednesday night, but due to issues with P-Way Tech’s bus, the game was postponed. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, January 30th at 5:30 PM. With the win, the Guvs improved to 6-8 overall on the season including a 5-5 mark in the GMC Gold.

South Amboy defeated Wardlaw earlier this year on December 23rd by almost the exact same score (55-48). The Guvs have won two straight and 3 of their last 5 games. Meanwhile, Wardlaw, which has lost 4 of its last 5, slipped to 4-11 overall including a 3-8 mark in divisional play. Both teams will be back in action next week.

Besides making up a game with Piscataway Tech on Monday, South Amboy will also play Timothy Christian on Wednesday, February 1st at 5:30 PM, and at Dunellen on February 3rd at 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, Wardlaw will play at Golda Och on Monday, January 30th at 4:30 PM, at Perth Amboy Tech on Wednesday at 5:30 PM, and at East Brunswick Tech on Friday at 5:30 PM.
