St. Thomas Aquinas to Play in 2020 Metro Classic

Trojans Scheduled to Face Linden and Rumson-Fair Haven

St. Thomas Aquinas Senior forward, Derrick Grant, who recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA D2 Men’s Basketball at Southern New Hampshire University next year, is shown here skying to the hoop for a jam against J.P. Stevens on December 22, 2018 in North Edison.  Grant and teammates Quadry Adams and Jaquan Harris will lead the Trojans against Linden and Rumson-Fair Haven in the 2020 Metro Classic.

TOMS RIVER, NJ—St. Thomas Aquinas is looking to be the top team not only in the Greater Middlesex Conference, but also one of the elite teams in the entire Garden State in 2019-20. The Trojans will be playing a very strong schedule that includes a number of games in featured showcases around New Jersey.

Starting on opening weekend in the Friends of South Amboy Benefit Showcase and in the 2019 Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic, St. Thomas Aquinas will continue playing big games in huge events when the calendar is flipped to 2020 with a contest against rival, St. Joseph’s at the SFIC Festival, and then a battle with Linden on the first day of Session 1 of the 2020 Metro Hoops Classic later that same week.

The Trojans are scheduled to face off against the Tigers, a long time powerhouse program from Union County at RWJ Barnabas Health Arena on Friday, January 11th at 4:00 PM. St. Thomas will be one of six teams from New Jersey playing on that first day, and highlights a very competitive and star-studded field that includes the Patrick School, Montverde Academy (FL), Gill St. Bernards, Blair Academy, The Phelps School, Our Savior Lutheran, Huntington Prep, St. Thomas More, and Sierra Canyon (CA).

The first session will be held during the weekend of January 10th and 11th while the second session will run during the weekend of February 7th and 8th. St. Thomas Aquinas will also compete in the second session with a contest against Group 2 and Shore Conference power, Rumson-Fair Haven on Saturday, February 8th at 1:30 PM.

All games will be played at RWJ Barnabas Health Arena in Toms River on the campus of Toms River North High School. Sierra Canyon is one of the highly touted teams in the country with Bronny James and Zaire Wade, the sons of former Miami Heat teammates, LeBron James (L.A. Lakers) and Dwayne Wade.
