GMC Hoops Game Notes–Seton Hall Prep vs. St. Patrick’s–East Coast Conditioning Fall League–October 18, 2012

NORTH EDISON, NJ–On Thursday night, play concluded at the 2012 East Coast Conditioning Fall League with the semifinals and championship. The first game started after 5:00 PM between Seton Hall Prep and St. Patrick’s. The Celtics had five three points including four in the first half along with a three point play to take a 12-8 first quarter lead, and a 25-17 lead late in the second quarter before Seton Hall Prep rallied with four points late in the frame to only trail 25-21 at the intermission. The Pirates got as close as 35-30 midway through the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get closer as St. Pat’s won 50-40. Below are some notes from the contest.

First Quarter

St. Patrick’s leads 12-8 after one quarter. There were three lead changes to start the game before the Celtics ended the period with a 9-4 run for the four point lead. St. Pat’s had two threes in the quarter while SHP only had one field goal until under two minutes to go in the frame. Spencer Weisz didn’t score for the Pirates while Deandre Bembry is not playing for St. Pat’s.


Second Quarter

St. Patrick’s leads at the half by the score of 25-21. Seton Hall Prep started out the period with a 4-2 run including a floater by Temple Gibbs and a layup, but the Celtics scored five straight points including a three point play for a 19-12 lead at the 5:47 mark.

The Pirates stayed within striking distance on a three from the right corner at the 4:58 mark, and after the Celtics got three pointers at the 3:01 and 1:17 marks of the frame for a 25-17 lead, the Prep got a jumper from the elbow at the 1:05 mark, and a steal for a layup at the 32 second mark to only trail 25-21 at the intermission.

St. Patrick’s had four threes in the half, and a 12-3 edge in points scored from beyond the arc. The Celtics also have a three point play. Seton Hall Prep and St. Pat’s were even at 13-13 in the period.


Third Quarter

7:12–official timeout–St. Pat’s opens the 2nd half with a 5-0 run including a putback and a three pointer from the right wing for a 30-21 lead.

5:28–injury timeout–St. Pat’s player fouled hard on a layup attempt–makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 31-21 lead.

3:58–SHP–gets on the board for the first time in the 3rd quarter on a layup by Gibbs for a 31-23 St. Pat’s lead.

3:31–SHP–Weisz nets a three pointer from near the top of the key for a 31-26 Celtics lead.

2:46–St. Pat’s goes up by seven at 33-26 on a two handed dunk underneath.

1:00–SHP–Weisz fouled, but misses both FTs.

0:00–SHP–Gibbs fouled–makes both foul shots for a 33-28 St. Patrick’s lead after three.


Fourth Quarter

8:55–STP–basket for a 35-28 lead.

8:45–SHP–timeout.

5:23–SHP–timeout–the Pirates appeared to have momentum after getting their first points of the period on a facial of a dunk at the 7:00 mark, but the Celtics responded with a 6-0 run including two breakaway layups off steals for a 41-30 lead.

4:39–SHP–Gibbs fouled–makes both FTs for a 41-32 St. Pat’s lead.

1:48–SHP–Weisz fires in three pointer from right wing for a 41-35 St. Pat’s lead.

1:38–STP–fouled–makes both FTs for a 43-35 lead.

1:24–SHP–fouled–misses both FTs.

1:15–STP–fouled–makes both FTs for a 45-35 lead.

1:08–SHP–turnover.

53.6–STP–fouled–makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 46-36 lead.

43.2–SHP–Gibbs fouled–makes both FTs for a 46-37 STP lead.

40.3–STP–fouled–makes both FTs for a 48-37 lead.

32.4–SHP–Gibbs–fouled makes 1 of 2 FTs fora 48-38 STP lead.

15.0–STP–layup for a 50-38 lead.
