GMC Gridiron Game Capsules–Week Six–Saturday Afternoon

Three Games Round Out Week Including Two Key Match-Ups In GMC Blue

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Week six action concludes on Saturday afternoon with only three games, but two of them are big match-ups in the GMC Blue Division.  One of those match-ups is a showdown between undefeated Middlesex and one loss Metuchen in Blue Jay Nation.  Below are game capsules with predictions on all three games:

Metuchen (3-1) at Middlesex (5-0)–This is the feature game on Saturday.  Middlesex is having its best season since 2008.  Metuchen, which defeated Middlesex last year at Blue Jay Way, has won three of four contests with its only loss suffered to Dunellen.  Both teams defeated Asbury Park with the Bulldogs defeating the Blue Bishops on the road by a substantial margin (34-6) while the Jays downed APHS at home (20-6).  Both teams also played South River with Metuchen shutting out the Rams on opening weekend (9-0) while Middlesex rolled past SRHS by three scores (41-20).   The Bulldogs are led by Danny Briggs, Evan Collier, and Devin Miller while the Jays are led by A.J. Abate, Kayshawn Wilson, Anthony Marshall, Carran Marks, Dennis Broadnax, and Matt Hode.  Should be a good one.  Middlesex will have a fight on its hands, but gets the edge.  Prediction:  Middlesex wins, 24-20.

South River (2-3) at Spotswood (2-3)–A clash of neighborhood rivals highlights this Saturday’s games as South River pays another visit to Spotswood.  The Chargers are 2-0 against teams from the GMC Blue while South River is 0-2.  The Rams are 2-1 against Shore Conference teams while Spotswood is 0-3.  The Chargers have played the likes of Shore Regional, Point Pleasant Beach, and Holmdel, and lost by a combined margin of only 32 points.  South River has played Keyport, Keansburg, and Mater Dei, and have been outscored 82-62 with the bulk of that coming last week to the Seraphs of MD (54-14 loss).  Spotswood is 2-0 at home while South River is 1-1 on the road.  Ryan Smolin directs the Chargers offense at QB.  Smolin has thrown for 420 yards and 3 TDs.  Chase Fee is the work horse at RB with 574 yards rushing on 75 carries, and 5 TDs.  Ryan Long has chipped in with 222 yards on 55 carries, and two TDs.  Nick Bacskoczky leads the team in receiving with 4 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns.  One of those catches was for 84 yards.  Nick Lepore leads South River at QB with 37 completions in 74 attempts for 382 yards and 5 TDs.  Mario Nigro has rushed 73 times for 261 yards and 3 TDs while Khaliyl Everett has rushed 33 times for 149 yards and 2 TDs.  Sean Darrar leads the team in receiving with 14 catches for 190 yards and 3 TDs.  Spotswood has given up a little more than 14 points per game while South River also given up almost twice that.  Chargers should break though at home.  Prediction:  Spotswood wins, 23-15.

Cardinal McCarrick (0-6) at Perkiomen Valley (6-1)–McCarrick continues its non-conference schedule by traveling out of state to take on Perkiomen Valley of Pennsylvania.  The Eagles have been generating some offense over the past two games by scoring an average of 14 points in losses to St. Elizabeth of Delaware (48-14) and Bergen Tech (52-14).  However, Perkiomen Valley has won six in a row including its last four by a combined margin of 201-27.  Prediction:  Perkiomen Valley wins, 42-14.

GMC Gridiron will be posting its Friday game capsules shortly.
