Sayreville’s Floyd To Attend Holy Cross University

Bombers Big Man to Attend Patriot League School Starting in Fall of 2016

SAYREVILLE, NJ–On Monday afternoon GMC Hoops learned from Sayreville standout big man Jehvye Floyd that he will be attending Holy Cross University to play basketball starting in the 2016-17 season after playing a year of postgraduate ball.  Floyd is coming off a tremendous junior campaign in which he helped lead the Sayreville Bombers to its first GMCT Final Four appearance since the 2009-10 season.

Floyd, a 6’7″ and 185 pound soon to be senior forward, first came onto the scene in Middlesex County boys hoops during the 2012-13 campaign as a sophomore on a Sayreville Junior Bombers JV squad that went 14-7, and got a preliminary round win over J.F. Kennedy before losing to top seeded Piscataway in the Round of 16 in the 2013 East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament.  However, this past season he truly blossomed he played all 28 games for Sayreville meet 128 field goals and a three pointer along with 39 foul shots for a total of 295 points this year, or an average of 10.5 points per game.  

Sayreville, which was also led by seniors Corey Taite and Rob Seraji finished 24-4 on the season, won its first ever GMC division title in boys basketball, and reached the semifinals of both the 2014 GMCT and CJ Group IV Tournaments.  The last time Sayreville won 24 games in a season was 63 years ago when it won the NJSIAA Group I State Title.  Floyd joins teammate Myles Hartsfield, who recently announced that he will play football at Penn State starting in the fall of 2015.

For his career at Sayreville, Floyd has played in 34 games and scored 305 points, grabbed 131 rebounds, blocked 39 shots, handed out 21 assists, and swiped 14 steals according to stats from NJ.com.  Holy Cross is a member of the Patriot League, and plays the likes of Lehigh, Lafayette, American University, and Boston Uinversity. This past season, the Crusaders went 20-14 overall including a 12-6 mark in conference play.  

In the post-season, Holy Cross reached the semifinal round of the 2014 Patriot League Tournament before losing to American (57-46) and advanced to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament before losing to Yale (71-66).  Another former GMC player that played at Holy Cross was former St. Joseph’s standout, Brian Wilson, who started for the Falcons with Jay Willams in the late 1990s.  Those St. Joe’s teams appeared in three GMCT finals and won two titles.
