St. Thomas Aquinas to Compete in 2020 Metro Classic

Trojans Scheduled to Face Linden and Rumson-Fair Haven

TOMS RIVER, NJ—St. Thomas Aquinas is not only looking to be the top team in the Greater Middlesex Conference, but also one of the elite teams in the entire Garden State in 2019-20. In addition to a tough non-conference schedule, Aquinas is playing in the 2020 Metro Classic as well as several other showcases.

Starting on opening weekend in the Friends of South Amboy Benefit Showcase and in the 2019 Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic, St. Thomas Aquinas will continue playing big games in huge events when the calendar is flipped to 2020 with a contest against rival, St. Joseph’s at the SFIC Festival, and then a battle with Linden on the first day of Session 1 of the 2020 Metro Hoops Classic later that same week.

The Trojans are scheduled to face off against the Tigers, a long time powerhouse program from Union County at RWJ Barnabas Health Arena on Friday, January 11th at 4:00 PM. St. Thomas will be one of six teams from New Jersey playing on that first day, and highlights a very competitive and star-studded field that includes the Patrick School, Montverde Academy (FL), Gill St. Bernards, Blair Academy, The Phelps School, Our Savior Lutheran, Huntington Prep, St. Thomas More, and Sierra Canyon (CA).

Metro Classic Running Two Sessions

The first session will be held during the weekend of January 10th and 11th while the second session will run during the weekend of February 7th and 8th. Aquinas is playing in the 2020 Metro Classic again later this season as well. The Trojans will play in the the second session with a contest against Group 2 and Shore Conference power, Rumson-Fair Haven on Saturday, February 8th at 1:30 PM.

All games will be played at RWJ Barnabas Health Arena in Toms River on the campus of Toms River North High School. Sierra Canyon is one of the highly touted teams in the country with Bronny James and Zaire Wade, the sons of former Miami Heat teammates, LeBron James (L.A. Lakers) and Dwayne Wade.
