GMC Hoops Game Notes–#2 St. Joseph’s vs. Union Catholic–Metro Classic–February 14, 2015

UNION, NJ–On Saturday night, GMC Hoops headed over to Harwood Arena on the campus of Kean University to see the second ranked Falcons in action against Union Catholic on the final day of the 2015 Metro Classic. Led by Isaiah Still and Zaire Newell, the Vikings led by as many as 21 in the 4th quarter en route to a 66-55 victory. Marcus Ashamole led St. Joe’s with 10 points. Below are game notes from the action:

First Half

Union Catholic takes a 37-27 lead at the half. Bree Tyree suffers ankle injury in the first quarter.


Third Quarter

4:41 left in the third and UC leads 42-29 thanks to scores by Isaiah Still and Zaire Newell. Vikings open half on a 5-2 run. Marcus Ashamole opens 2nd half scoring with a reverse layup.

0:00–End of third and despite a breakaway layin late in the quarter by Marcus Ashamole, Joes trails 50-37.


Fourth Quarter

6:14 left in the game and UC now leads 58-37 after a trey from the left wing by Zaire Newell.

3:10 left in the game and Joes calls time after a trey from the left side by Mikey Granda closes the gap to 62-47.

36.8 left in the game and Joes calls 30 sec timeout after a layup by Dexter Jackson closes gap to 65-55.

0:00–Game just ended with UC defeating Joes 65-55. Joes ended the game on a 18-7 tear. Marcus Ashamole led the Falcons with 10 points while Bree Tyree, who returned for a bit in the 2nd half, finished with 6 points.
