GMC Hoops Game Notes–Sayreville @ North Brunswick–JV Game of the Week–December 16, 2016

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ–Prior to the varsity boys season opener between North Brunswick and Sayreville, the JV teams went at it in the GMC Hoops Game of the Week, and it was quite a thriller as well.

After a first half and early third period that saw tremendous swings in momentum, the JV Bombers of Sayreville and the JV Raiders of North Brunswick went at it down to the wire. Sayreville trailed 59-55 early on in the fourth quarter when Eric Sokolowski scored to spark a decisive 11-5 spurt for a 66-64 win.

Leading the way for the JV Bombers was J. Reick with a team high 18 points on six threes. I-Be Allah led the JV Raiders in defeat with a game high 32 points including 16 in the second quarter and 9 in the third when North Brunswick turned a 26-11 deficit into a 49-48 lead. First Quarter

6:00–Sayreville’s JV jumps out to a 7-2 lead.

3:54 left in the first quarter and Sayreville’s JV leads 10-6 after a three from the left corner by J. Reick.

0:00–End of first quarter and Sayreville’s JV leads North Brunswick 22-11. JV Bombers end period on a 7-0 run including another three by Reick. NBTHS had 5 FGs and made one of three FTs. Sayreville had 4 threes, 4 FGs an two FTs in the frame. J. Reick led the Bombers with 6 points on two threes.


Second Quarter

6:18 to go in the half and Sayreville’s JV calls time with a 26-13 lead after a North Brunswick score ended a 16-5 run by the JV Bombers including 11 unanswered points. JV Bombers pressure producing turnovers

4:49 left in the first half and Sayreville’s JV calls time after a NBTHS transition layup caps an 11-0 tear to close gap to 26-22.

3:34 left in the first half and Sayreville’s JV breaks a 26-26 tie with a three from the left wing

27.5 seconds left in the first half and we are all tied at 33-33. NBTHS had a 15-0 run to tie game at 26-26.

0:00–Game has gone to the half with the score tied at 33-33. Four ties over last half of 2nd after North Brunswick’s JV end goes on a 15-0 run to tie game a 26-26. I-Be Allah leads all scorers with a game high 20 points for North Brunswick including 16 in the 2nd alone. J. Reick leads Sayreville’s JV with 8 points including two threes.


Third Quarter

3:43 left in the third and North Brunswick’s JV calls time after Dan Reardon sank a three earlier to close the gap to 43-40. Sayreville had opened second half on a 10-4 run.

0:00–End of third quarter and North Brunswick’s JV leads Sayreville 49-48 after another score by I-Be Allah. JV Raiders end period on a 12-5 spurt.


Fourth Quarter

5:18 remaining in the game and Sayreville’s JV pulls within two at 59-57 on a score by Eric Sokolowski

3:19 left in regulation and Sayreville’s JV calls time with the ball after taking a 61-60 lead on a layup off great hustle on a full court pass that almost went out of bounds.

1:39 left in regulation and North Brunswick calls time trailing 64-63. JV Raiders trying to claw back from a four point deficit.

30 seconds left and Sayreville’s JV calls time with the ball and a 65-63 lead.

7.6 seconds left in regulation and NBTHS JV calls time with the ball trailing 65-64 after getting a blocked shot.

0:00–Sayreville hangs on to win, 66-64. North Brunswick had another chance to tie or win the game, but couldn’t score. Defensive play of the game by the JV Bombers is a blocked shot on an NBTHS three point attempt in the closing seconds. Sayreville actually had two blocked shots in the closing seconds. J. Reick led the Sayreville’s JV with 18 points. I-Be Allah led the way with a game high 32 points.
