Former GMC Standouts Do Well On Sunday Night At Star-Ledger League

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On Sunday night, GMC Hoops took a trip over to the College Ave Barn on the main campus of Rutgers University to take in the nightcap game between VP Builders and Scarlet Fever. In the game, there were several former GMC players that performed quite well including Sean Baptiste of St. Joseph’s (FDU), Kofi Genfi of Sayreville (Rutgers), and Devon Young of South Brunswick (Felician). Baptiste led the way for the Scarlet Fever with 26 points on 10 of 24 shooting from the floor including four from long distance, and a perfect 2 of 2 from the line. The soon to be junior at FDU also added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and block. During the season at Farleigh Dickinson, Baptiste was not only one of the top scorers on his team with an average of 18.5 points per game, but also grabbed 6.3 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, Genfi, who made the roster at Rutgers as a walk-on, played quite well himself despite being matched up against the bigger and more experienced fellow R.U. teammate Jaron Griffin of Manchester. The former Sayreville big man, who had earned GMC Hoops Player of the Week honors back in January 2007, registered 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the floor for the Scarlet Fever, and a 1 of 2 showing at the line while grabbing 10 rebounds including 5 on the offensive glass, blocking 2 shots, and also collecting a steal, and an assist. Young, who came off a fine freshman campaign at Division II Felician, knocked in 13 points on 6 of 11 shooting including a trey while collecting two rebounds for VP Builders. Other member of the Scarlet Fever from the GMC, Nick Smith of Colonia (Stonehill), did not play in Sunday night’s game. VP Builders won the contest by the score of 105-96 to get its first victory of the summer.
