Monroe To Have Christmas Tournament In 2008-09

UNION, NJ–On Friday, when GMC Hoops was attending the Kean Ironman Challenge at Harwood Arena, it learned from Monroe Boys Basketball head coach, Bob Turco, that the Falcons will be hosting a Christmas Tournament this upcoming season. The last time the Purple Birds hosted such a tournament was during the 2005-06 season when A.J. Rudowitz led the school to its best season in school history. This year’s holiday tourney will be a GMC Red vs. GMC White Challenge with the Red Division being represented by Perth Amboy, South Brunswick, and Woodbridge while the White Division will be represented by Monroe, New Brunswick, and Sayreville.

There will be no outright winner in this tournament since it will be a round-robin format. According to Turco, the tourney came about so that the teams could get in three crossover games against the other division since the regular season schedules for Red Division teams was filled because there are nine teams in the division. The tournament is scheduled for December 27th, 29th, and 30th with projected start times of 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, and 1:00 PM. GMC Hoops plans to cover this event when the 2008-09 season gets underway in December.
