SOUTH AMBOY, NJ–On Thursday morning, GMC Hoops was notified by Tom Reilly, one of the co-directors of the Raritan Bay Summer League, that the 2009 edition of the league is looking for teams. Last summer was the best summer the league has had yet. There were so many teams that some had to be turned away. Here is all the info on the league:
Hope everyone had a successful winter season! Raritan Bay Basketball is proud to announce that it will return for another summer of basketball. The league is tentatively set to begin in late May early June and run until Aug 6. We are currently accepting teams ranging from grades 3 thru 10. The grade should reflect what that player will be enrolled in Sept of this year. We have not determined the costs as of yet but should be able to provide it shortly. Each team will play a minimum of 10 games. As always, we will try to accommodate each team in regards to dates and times. The league rules will remain the same. 20 minute running half’s with the clock stopping in the final 2 minutes of each half, and 5 time-outs per game.
Rosters will not be accepted. We fully understand with vacations, baseball, swimming etc… no one will be held to a roster. All games will be played at the air-conditioned South Amboy High School gym. Four games will be played each night with the first game beginning at 5:30 pm. Admission will be charged for all spectators. Light refreshments will be sold. All teams should have same colored shirts with numbers.
Once the schedule is put in place it will only be for the first 4-5 games. The league does this to create better matchups over the second half of the season. As always teams will be afforded the opportunity to play up when the league feels it would create a good matchup. This has worked well over the past few years. Teams will be notified after the first few games and will be presented with this opportunity. You will have the ability to deny this opportunity and stay with the normal schedule.
Please let Tom Reilly or Gary Lange know of your interest. The league does fill up quickly and because we need to be completed by Aug 6 we are limiting the teams that can
participate. Remember that we did reach capacity last year and needed to
