GMCBCA Senior All-Star Game–April 8, 2009–Video Highlights–Scoring Controversy?

PERTH AMBOY, NJ–Although this is always a game for fun, the GMCBCA Boys Senior All-Star Game still has to have a winner, and a loser. There still must be some competitive drive among the players even for just a showcase game of the GMC’s best senior talent. Apparently, there was a scoring mistake that may have affected the ultimate outcome of the contest. The final score of the 2009 Senior All-Star Game read 71-70 in favor of the Red Team, but the Black Team may have a gripe over the final result, and here’s why:

Breakdown of Scoring Early In Second Half

  • Score at Halftime, Red Team led 43-41.
  • Start of Second Half, East Brunswick Tech’s Kevin Powell connects on short jumper to tie contest at 43-43.
  • Red Team takes the lead back on a follow by Edison’s Steve Migliore for a 45-43 score.
  • Piscataway’s Jeff Adkins ties the game again for the Black Team with a putback of his own miss to make it 45-45.
  • Amboy Tech’s Joey Castro takes a sharp pass from Cardinal McCarrick’s Branten Widgeon for a layup, and a 47-45 lead.
  • Powell scores on follow of missed jumper by Adkins to tie the game again at 47-47.
  • Powell scores again by converting a three point play, but the foul shot is only counted, and the score is 48-47 instead of 50-47 in favor of the Black Team.
  • Adkins nets two free throws after being fouled on a layup attempt to make it 50-47, but it should be 52-47.
