2010 Hoop Group Headquarters Spring League–Week Two–Analysis

Purple Birds Notch Second Straight Win While South River Takes Step Back In Loss

NEPTUNE, NJ–On Monday, April 12th, the 2010 Hoop Group Headquarters Spring League got back to action after the Easter break with its second week of the season. GMC Hoops made the trip out to the site formerly known as Rebounds for the first time this spring. The site made the rounds by exchanging greetings with league director, Joe Stein, striking up a conversation with Monroe head coach, Bob Turco, and Tim Brix Sr. as well as Danny Brix, and having a chat with South River head coach, Rodney Harris. GMC Hoops learned that Timmy Brix will be attending Centenary College of the Division III Colonial States Athletic Conference next fall.

The site learned that Monroe won in typical fashion in its game against Point Boro. The Falcons jumped out to a comfortable lead only to let things get interesting at the end. Meanwhile, South River took a step back after a positive effort against a Group IV school in Toms River East in week one. The Rams gave way to a 17-2 tear by the Sabertooths en route to a 53-36 loss. South River is now 0-2 on the spring while the Sabertooths improved to a Division B leading 2-0. G-Force Gold and G-Force Black, late arrivers to the league, played two games on Monday including one against each other. G-Force Gold started out the spring strong with two victories to tie the Sabertooths for first place. G-Force Black is at .500.

Southern Regional, Toms River East, G-Force Black, and Asbury Park Blue are all 1-1. Asbury Park’s junior squad evened up their record at .500 on the spring with a two point victory over winless Lacey. Moving over to Division A, both Asbury Park Black and Neptune won to keep pace with Monroe in a three way tie for first place. St. John Vianney slipped to the Bishops to fall to 1-1 while St. Rose of Belmar slipped into a tie for fourth place at .500 with a convincing victory over surprisingly winless Manasquan. Point Boro and Ocean Township are also without a victory at 0-2.
