Weather Forecast–North Edison at 7:00 PM EDT

The heat and humidity returned with a vengeance today. Although the mercury hasn’t quite climbed up to where it was expected to be, it is sure humid outside. The National Weather Service Office in Mount Holly has issued an air quality alert for the Garden State. The NWS forecast still calls for the temperature to reach 90 degrees today here in South Plainfield, which is not far from Bishop Ahr High School. Skies will be mostly sunny today with a light southwesterly wind. If the temperature gets to 90 degrees, it will be the 39th time since May 7th that the mercury has climbed to 90 degrees or higher in South Plainfield. Skies will become partly cloudy tonight, which will prevent the temperatures from going down too much. The low on Saturday morning will only be 66 degrees. A weak cold front is expected to go through very late tonight into early Saturday. So, there shouldn’t be any rain for the game. Dress comfortably though since it is going to be warm for this second day of fall. Might see players cramp up during the course of the game so it will be important to hydrate.

Game Outlook

This game looked to be a key matchup in the GMC White Division when the season started. With Monroe moving up to the Red and Ahr filling the void in the White, New Brunswick looked like it had to contend with the Trojans. However, both teams have lost a great deal to graduation. In addition, the Zebras have a new coach after John Quinn stepped down to take the coaching position at Elizabeth.

Ahr got some help when Dillon Salva transferred into the school from North Brunswick this summer. The Trojans also have the likes of Kenny Virden, Rashad Kilgore, Taylor Black, Chris Guido, and Cody Stier back from last year. BGA will run the spread offense again this season. Roger Kilgore, the younger brother of Rashad Kilgore, is another basketball standout on the gridiron for the Trojans. Meanwhile, New Brunswick has Shadrach and Meschach Ford leading the way along with basketball standouts Jaquan Cook and Nyeem Coleman at wideout.

The Zebras are not only still searching for their first win of the season, but also their first points. They’ve been shutout this season by an average margin of 23-0 in their first two games. Bishop Ahr was also shutout in its opener against Neptune, which was an ugly loss (62-0). BGA rebounded though last week with a 21-7 victory over an improving South Plainfield squad.

Both of these teams are rebuilding somewhat after successful season last year. However, a win today could put one of these teams back in the race to contend in the GMC White with the likes of North Brunswick and J.F. Kennedy, which are undefeated at 2-0. Ahr is yet to play either team while New Brunswick was shut out at home last week against North Brunswick (21-0). BGA, which won the Blue Division last year, moved up to the White while New Brunswick finished second. Both teams ended 2009 at 6-4.

See our pick in the GMC Football Week Three Capsules for Friday night.
