2010 Monroe Sports Center Fall League–Results–Week Nine–November 10th

MONROE, NJ–On Wednesday night, GMC Hoops traveled down to the Monroe Sports Center for the ninth and final week of action from this league. This was the seven time the site was at MSC, and got the results from all the games that were played. It was non-stop basketball at MSC from 5:30 to almost 9:30 for GMC Hoops. Marlboro and West Windsor-Plainsboro had byes. Below are the results of all the games:

  • Perth Amboy 62–South Amboy 36–The Guvs gave Perth Amboy all it could handle in the first half by taking a 28-20 lead at the intermission. However, in the second half, it was all Panthers as they embarked on a 42-8 surge including 28 of the final 30 points of the game to break away from a 34-34 tie. Hamilton Capellan helped lead the way with 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting along with 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist. Chael Hernandez added 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals while Jonathan Rodriguez contributed with 7 points as well. Meanwhile, for South Amboy, bright spot was junior Mike Zammit, who scored a team high 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting including two threes. Aaron Radich chipped in with 8 points while Dustin DeVoe picked up 6 points and 7 rebounds. Robert Burns also had six points in the loss.
  • Princeton 49–Spotswood 45–The Little Tigers led by four with 44.4 seconds remaining before making two free throws for a 49-43 lead. Spotswood would get another basket, but couldn’t get any closer as Princeton finished the fall at 6-2.
  • Monroe 44–South Brunswick 39–The Falcons trailed at the half 19-14, and 28-22 midway through the second half, but rallied for the victory. Monroe closed the game with a 22-11 surge and outscored the Vikings by a 30-20 margin in the final 20 minutes of the contest. South Brunswick had a 30-29 lead after Malik Davis-Bey scored a basket with about 7:30 remaining, but the Purple Birds went on a decisive 9-0 run over the next 3:28 as Ryan Stolte put in an offensive rebound and follow, and Victor Sorrento netted two from the line for a 38-30 advantage. The Vikings would get within five on a three pointer, but Mike Mahmoud put the game out of reach with two free throws at the 2:03 mark, and a jumper from Sorrento at the 1:12 mark.
  • Notre Dame 53–J.F. Kennedy 47–The Irish got their first win of the fall thanks to a strong second half in which they outscored the Mustangs by a margin of 36-19. Kennedy broke away from an 18-15 lead late in the first half with a 10-2 spurt for a 28-17 halftime lead. Notre Dame then opened the second half with eight straight points to pull within three again at 28-25. JFK went back up by seven as it scored six of the next eight points for a 34-27 lead with 14:30 remaining. Over the next 14 minutes or so, the Irish went on a 24-10 surge to take a seven point lead before A.J. Pichalski hit a late three to get the Mustangs within four. Time ran out before Kennedy could get any closer though.
  • Spotswood 37–Allentown 35*–This game was not originally scheduled, but Hunterdon Central didn’t show up so Allentown played the Chargers instead. The Redbirds came out strong early on to take a 10-7 lead, but Spotswood rallied with a 12-8 run the rest of the first half to take a 19-18 lead at the intermission. The game continued to go back and forth as Allentown started the second period with an 8-5 run for a 26-24 lead. The Chargers fought back to tie the score at 31-31, but eventually fell behind again. The Redbirds had a 35-34 lead late when Tommy Soulias hit a three pointer to put Spotswood ahead 37-35. Allentown had a chance to tie, but failed to score.
  • Rumson Fair-Haven 45–Robbinsville 37–Robbinsville gave Rumson-Fair Haven plenty of trouble in the first half of this one. However, the Bulldogs were not to be denied on this night. Using a wave of emotion late in the first half, Rumson not only tied the game, but took the lead into the intermission. The Monmouth County school then outscored the Ravens by a 19-12 margin to secure a 45-34 lead before Robbinsville hit a three pointer late to round out the 45-37 final.
  • New Egypt 49–South River 24–The Warriors held South River to just 3 of 20 shooting in the first half to take a 20-6 lead. New Egypt then got a traditional three point play from Desmond Hubert and two threes from Mark Przyzbylkowski to extend its advantage to 37-16 before the reserves came in, and finished the game off with a 12-8 showing for the 25 point victory. Hubert went 7 of 10 from the floor, and made his only foul shot attempt for 15 points along with 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, an assist, and a steal. Przyzbylkowski added 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the floor including 3 of 6 from three point range. He also added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Craig Huff led South River in a losing cause with 6 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
  • Steinert 38–Shore Regional 35–Steinert trailed 35-29 before rallying with eight straight points including two free throws with under 20 seconds to play. Shore had a chance to tie the game, but lost the handle of the basketball in their front court, which may have forced the Blue Devils to rush the shot, and as a result, it hit back iron as time expired. It was the first victory of the fall for the Spartans.

Note: Allentown still gets a win by forfeit since Hunterdon Central didn’t show up. The site will have the final updated standings posted and team stats posted shortly.
