Puleio Takes Reins Of Monroe Boys Basketball Program

Succeeds Bob Turco As New Head Coach Of Falcons

MONROE, NJ–Recently, GMC Hoops learned that Monroe Township High School has a new head coach. The school hired from within as it selected girls JV coach, Nick Puleio, to succeed Bob Turco as head coach of the boys basketball program. Turco took the head coaching position at Notre Dame High School this past July.

Prior to coaching in the Monroe girls program, Puleio was an assistant under Joe Lewis at Brick Township High School from 2002 to 2008. During that span, the Green Dragons improved from one of the teams near the bottom of the Class A South Division to a division winner. Brick was 19-8 during the 2006-07 season. In that season, Brick was eliminated by eventual champion South Brunswick in the quarterfinal round of the Central Jersey Group IV State Tournament. The Dragons won their division that season with an 11-2 record. During his tenure at Brick, the school qualified for the state tournament including 2004, 2006, and 2007.

Puleio will be inheriting a Falcons team that has been transformed significantly from the summer. In addition to losing the likes of Kenny Pace (Kean) and Timmy Brix (Centenary) to graduation, Monroe lost top juniors Ahmid Williams (Cardinal McCarrick) and Danny Brix (St. Joseph’s), who both transferred out following the departure of Turco for Notre Dame. However some good talent remains with the likes of Ryan Genevieve, Victor Sorrento, Mike Mahmoud, Mike Walp, and Alex Vizcaino among the players returning. Puleio, who also coaches cross country at the school, will also have assistant coaches Jeff Warner and Shawn McCorkle on the staff. See the article on Puleio’s hiring from the Sentinel.
