Colonia’s Usuwa Making An Impact At Stockton

Former Patriot Forward Having Solid Season So Far For Ospreys; Monroe’s Horsch Also Helping

POMONA, NJ–With a solid program at Stockton, you would think it would be very hard to make a significant impact. However, that is not the case with former Colonia standout, Nnamdi Usuwa. Through the first six games of the season, Usuwa has played and started in each game, leads the team in rebounding, is second in the team in scoring, and is third on the team in minutes.

The 2009 GMC Hoops Comeback Player of the Year has connected on 57 percent of his shots (33 of 58), and made 14 of 25 foul shots to average 13.3 points per game. He’s also pulled down 53 rebounds, or 8.8 rebounds per contest. His best game so far this season came in a 68-57 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg on November 20th. In that game, Usuwa recorded a monster double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds while also picking up 3 assists and 2 steals in 36 minutes. More recently, Usuwa scored 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the floor and 3 of 3 from the line in a 52-37 win over Rutgers Camden on Decmeber 1st, and recorded a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards in a 52-49 overtime victory against William Paterson on December 4th.

As a freshman, Usuwa played in 21 games including one start for Stockton during the 2009-10 season. He played 7 minutes per game, made 17 of 30 shots for 57 percent, went 10 of 19 from the line, and averaged 2.1 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. This season so far, the Ospreys are 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. Last season, Stockton finished at 20-8 including a 9-4 mark in conference play, and reached the NJAC Tournament finals where it lost to William Paterson (70-58). The Ospreys then lost in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament to Virginia Wesleyan (85-82).

Also playing on the roster at Stockton is former Monroe standout, Colin Horsch. A junior at Monroe when the Falcons reached the GMCT Final Four and Central Jersey Group III Championship Game in 2005-06, Horsch transferred to Atlantic Christian in South Jersey. He is now a junior at Stockton, and is averaging 20.5 minutes per game, 5.3 points per game, and 1.8 rebounds per game so far this season. He’s made 53 percent of his shots from the floor including 44 percent from beyond the arc. His best game so far this season was against William Paterson with 11 points. As a sophomore at the school, Horsch played in 15 games, averaged 6.6 minutes per game, 0.6 points per game, and 0.7 rebounds per game. During his freshman year, he played in 22 games and averaged 7 minutes per game, 1.2 points per game, 1.5 rebounds per game, and 0.8 assists per game on a squad that went 30-3 overall, won the NJAC Tournament, and reached the NCAA Division III Championship before losing to Washington-St. Louis.
