Big Week So Far For Lubreski Family

Former South Plainfield Head Coach And Son Help Plainfield And North Plainfield To Big Wins

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–It was a big week for the family of former South Plainfield head coach, Jeff Lubreski. On Saturday, his son Sean, a sophomore at North Plainfield High School, pumped in 26 points to lead the Canucks to a stunning victory over previously undefeated Bound Brook in the Round of 16 of the Somerset County Tournament. North Plainfield entered the game with a 4-11 record on the season. Back in the Crusader Classic over the holidays, Spotswood defeated the Canucks in overtime.

Then, last night, the patriarch of the family came up with a change in strategy when his Plainfield Cardinals took on the Linden Tigers in a clash of two old rivals from the Watchung Conference in Union County Conference action. Linden had just come off a recent loss against St. Patrick’s. Lubreski benched three of his starters including standout junior guard Sekou Harris and senior guard Allen Brown. The moves paid off as Harris and Brown came off the bench to help the Cards get a 46-43 victory over Linden.

North Plainfield will now face Hillsborough later this week in the Quarterfinal round of the Somerset County Tournament. The Canucks opened tournament play by defeating Bernards in the opening round. Despite having an undefeated record, Bound Brook was seeded fifth in the tourney while Gill St. Bernards earned the top seed. The Crusaders still look to be a force to reckon with once the Central Jersey Group I Tournament gets underway. However, they will have tough competition there as well with the likes of GMC Gold Division champion, Piscataway Tech leading the way.
