South Brunswick’s Young Voted To Academic All-America Team

Former Viking Standout Excelling In The Classroom As Well As On The Court

RUTHERFORD, NJ–This year wasn’t a championship season for Felician, but it was still a banner year for South Brunswick’s Devon Young both on and off the basketball court. Young, who guided the Vikings to its first sectional crown since 1974, and first state final appearance since 1968 back in 2007, was recently selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Team.

Young, an accounting major, has thrived in the classroom with a 3.7 GPA while continuing to excel on the court. This past season, the South Brunswick native played and started in all 27 games, averaged 19.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He ended his career at Felician as the school’s all time leading scorer with 1,893 points while also ranking in the top five at the college in rebounds, assists, and steals. More significantly, Young also led Felician to the Central Atlatnic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship, and its first ever NCAA berth last season as the Golden Falcons won a school record 24 games.

In 2010-11, Young lead all Felician players in minutes played (36.1), points (19.4), rebounds (6.8), field goals made (199) and attempted (391), free throws made (102) and attempted (147), and total rebounds (183). This past season, the Golden Falcons were 14-13 overall including a 10-8 record in CACC play. Over the four years that young played at Felician, the Golden Falcons were 64-50 overall including a 36-32 mark in conference play.

Young is the latest in a line of former GMC standouts to play at Felician including current Colonia boys basketball head coach, Chris Chiera and Sayreville standout Marcin Ziobron.
