Former Bulldogs And Vermont Standout Signs Contract With Houston Rockets

HOUSTON, TX–It’s been quite a ride this past season for former Metuchen High School hoops standout Marqus Blakely. After starting out with the Los Angeles Clippers, Blakely went through much of the season in the NBA’s Developmental League with the Bakersfield Jam and Iowa Energy. However, prior to the end of the regular season, Blakely reached a deal with the Houston Rockets.

According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, Blakely agreed to a three year, non-guaranteed contract with the Rockets. He joined the team for its last NBA regular season game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the D-League, he averaged 15 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 62.5 percent from the floor.

In another article courtesy of Our Sports Central, Blakely was the 27th call up from the NBA’s D-League this season. There are 101 players with D-League experience playing in the NBA currently. Blakely spent his first season of professional hoops after having a solid career at Vermont where he averaged 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 steals in 129 games over four years. He was twice named America East Conference player of the year, and the league’s defensive player of the year three times.
