2011 Raritan Bay Summer League–Notebook–Week Two

Just before you can blink an eye, two weeks have finished at the 2011 Raritan Bay Summer League in South Amboy.  It has been a tough two weeks for the league, but it still has managed to generate a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.

In the 7th and 8th Grade Division, We Run of Roselle and Linden has picked up right where it left off from last summer with three wins in its first three games including two come from behind wins over the Central Jersey Hawks (38-36) and Quincy Kings (47-45).  In both of those victories, We Run trailed for most of the game

The Central Jersey Hawks are right behind with a 2-1 record thanks to blowout wins over Merrill Park (60-32) and Quincy Kings.  South Amboy has done fairly well so far.  Despite a blowout loss to We Run on Thursday, South Amboy has posted a 3-1 mark with victories over St. Stan’s (48-30), Quincy Kings (41-25), and St. Ambrose (54-26).

The Girls Division has come back for a second season, and has five teams.  The game is run at a slower pace then the boys, but the competition has been fairly good with three games decided by single digits, and another won decided by a dozen points.  The Jayhawks, Sacred Heart, and Quincy Queens have gotten wins early on while Monroe has played tough.

As a matter of fact, competition throughout the league has been fairly good thus far with 11 contests including GIrls games that have been decided by 9 points or less.  Five of those contests have been decided by six points or less.  The best two games involved We Run against the Central Jersey Hawks and the Quincy Kings.  In spite of several cancellations on the schedule, and the fact that the High School Division has yet to get off the ground, the league is doing alright.
