Piscataway’s Lowery Takes Reigns At Essex County College

Former MCC Head Coach Returns To The Sidelines In Region XIX

NEWARK, NJ–Last week, GMC Hoops learned that former Middlesex County College men’s basketball coach, Corey Lowery, has taken over the head coaching position of the men’s basketball program at Essex County College.

Lowery, a former Piscataway standout, who played college ball at Rutgers-Newark, turned Middlesex County College from a mediocre program into a national powerhouse in just a few years. He coached at MCC for four seasons, and compiled an overall record of 88-28 including a 64-13 mark in the Garden State Athletic Conference.

In 2008, the Blue Colts won the Region XIX championship, and reached the Division III JUCO National Championship tournament in New York, where they finished seventh. MCC reached the Region XIX title game the year before, and lost. Prior to coaching at MCC, Lowery was the boys basketball coach at Hillside High School, and an assistant coach at Bloomfield College.
